Coins... we Tuchuk do not deal with them for the most part. I know of them.. but not as much as most. I was referred to as a rare coin... and no.. not by Jerus. It was a passing evaluation given to me by an outside party. How... I can keep getting tossed around and thrown and still get back up. Easily used... easily rubbed the wrong way. People keep shaving pieces of me away.. trying to either keep a part of me or take it away from me totally. But the sad part is... eventually.. there is nothing left to take or give.. and the coin is gone. Once the coin is picked at by each and everyone that wants it... it starts to lose it strenght and luster.. and it's value keeps going down and down. That poor coin soon has nothing left to hold onto in it's life... it is just a small shard of useless metal.
So are people the same??? Can a person be shaved or be voided of certain things? I suppose so... humility can break away parts of a person and leave them feeling empty. The constant nagging and bickering... the relentless harping to what one does or did. Even the strongest person will crack. How can one not let it get to them?
There is a story about a metal worker... a special metal worker that delt with gold. His Employer was a tight wad... having His employee's searched from top to bottom every night before they left work. The employer didnt want the Men stealing and accumulating gold pieces to one day open their own business and run Him out. But this one young man went to work everyday.. donning His apron and putting in His 6 Ahn without complaint. Day after day the other workers were searched and every night one tried to smuggle out a piece of gold. Not even the notches to the ears.. brandings.. even cutting off of their hands stopped these Men from trying to steal. Yet every night the young Man left with His apron... was searched and never did they find anything on Him. He was offered a promotion to a higher rank off the labor line to be trained to do books and stop the hard work day in and day out... shaving and cutting the gold into intriquet pieces. He told His employer that the artistic part of the work was what He loved and wished to continue doing it. The employer said that someday He hoped the young man would take over His business and keep the quality of goods flowing so that His name would be forever remembered in Gor. The young man was allowed to stay and do His work and continued to work for many many turning till He was much older. The shop owner had a son the same age as this worker.. and both had found interest in the most beautiful Woman. They tried in vane to court Her.. each sending gifts and offering dinners and the like. The shop worker didnt have much money like the son of the business owner did... but He still tried hard to win the heart of this Woman. When the shop owner eventually died... the son took over and immediately fired His rival... thinking that with no job and no means to pay for anything.. this Woman would be His. The son gave no thought to His Father or the man that helped establish the business. The son ran the business into the ground... taking any and all profits to be used on this Woman and for His own selfish desires. For 3 days the fired worker had not been seen and the Woman... concerned for Him went to visit. He answered His door and invited Her in. They spoke briefly over what had happened and how the most prized metal shop in the land had been ruined. During that conversation several slaves entered and the Man instructed them to take many containers out to a cart. The Woman watched as each slave carried a bucket sized container out... one.. two.. six.. ten... and finally twelve. She inquired as to what was in the containers... the man smiled and said you will soon see. He left Her then and took His cart into town. Several days later the Woman was passing the old Metal smith's shop and heard the sounds of full production. Fire blazed in the pit.. smoke rose from the bellows... hammering.. cutting.. all the likes of a busy shop. She entered and was greeted by the former employee that the son had fired. She was shocked... and was offered a seat while the Man explained... "Over all the years... I had worked here.. watching men steal pieces of gold... trying to sneak a piece out.. I never once took anything. " The Woman said... "But how?? How did you afford a place like this then?" The man smiled... " You see... everyday.. I came to work with this apron. Which has a large pocket in the front... and as I worked on the gold pieces.. shaving them down into beautiful works of art.. the small shavings would fall into my pocket. When I would get home... I put the shavings into a container.. each and every night." The Woman smiled with wide eyes... and the Man continued. " So after all these years... I took my shavings and had them weighed. There was enough to buy the business and continue the work I so dearly loved and carry on the name" The Woman's smile was filled with pride. The Man came around the counter and knelt to one knee.. lifting a box and handing it to the Woman. She opened it and inside was the most beautiful ring She'd ever seen !! The Man asked to companion Her and She agreed. The former business owners son heard about this and took His own life. The shop keeper and His Woman lived happily ever after.
So is there a moral to this story??? Perhaps... perhaps there is one in it for everyone. But for me... it is the fact that... no matter how much you keep shaving off... someone is there collecting it.. and sooner or later will put all those shavings back together and make something beautiful out of that which has been destroyed.
Think about it
